The Learning Choice Academy (TLC) applied for a TK-6 grade waiver for our three school sites in Chula Vista (CVESD), La Mesa (GUHSD), and Scripps Ranch (SDUSD). As a charter school we had to list our sponsoring district on the application, but this does not mean that the district is applying for a waiver or impacting any of their traditional schools.
We will remain virtual through the fall semester which was announced in late May. The waiver is intended to make sure that we can provide special education services and 1:1/small group tutoring on-site which was in our original virtual learning plan. TLC will only offer in-person meetings if all other measures are not working or as a support for services that may not work as well virtually. The waiver is a proactive measure to extend services to students as warranted to meet their personalized learning needs.
The waiver application was resubmitted on August 19th and is being reviewed by our local health department to ensure that all health and safety guidelines are met before forwarding to the state (California Department of Public Health) for final approval. Once approved the school will have the flexibility to offer special education services and small group tutoring.
This is part of taking steps to provide as many resources as possible to students, especially those with the highest needs. Our Road to Reopening plan specifies all of the protocols and guidelines we are following to ensure the safety of our community.
As a personalized learning and non-classroom based school, we understand the importance of remaining flexible to meet students’ individual needs to ensure their academic success.
