On October 17, TLC 4th and 5th graders received a special visit from a team of Red Cross representatives as part of “The Pillowcase Project,” the Red Cross’ signature youth preparedness program.
The Red Cross team taught students about emergency protocols in general, while focusing on home fire preparedness. Students learned about what to do in case of a home fire and they were given the assignment to go home and share what they learned with their family and loved ones.
In addition, students learned some useful coping skills to help them not only in case of emergencies, but in any stressful situation.
Students received a “My Preparedness Workbook” and decorated their own pillowcases, which they can use to make their own emergency supply kit.
The American Red Cross will install smoke detectors in any home for free. If you or your family would like more information, you can call (858) 309-1272.
