Youth Mental Health America Internship Recipient

This opportunity was shared by TLC Counselor, Diane Barrett, in March. Razalea was intrigued by the opportunity so she submitted an application and was accepted!

Razalea said she wanted to apply to YMHA because she has always had a great interest in mental health. This is in large part because four years ago she realized she was autistic. As Razalea explained,

"The whole world of mental health started to open up to me. I’d start to go to my mom about my findings helping us understand each other much better."

As part of her internship with YMHA, Razalea will learn about different mental health disabilities, crisis response training, independent living, and digital impact on mental health.

She hopes this experience will give her the skills she needs to pursue a job in the mental health field in the future, as well as help her become more aware of how to help others in their times of need. Razalea said,

"I think mental health is very important. It’s what dictates our whole life, if you feel down you won’t make as good decisions. Bad mental health can be life threatening."
