All About TLC’s Hybrid Homeschool Program

Whether you are seeking more autonomy in your child’s education, a more flexible school-week schedule, or a little extra support for teaching the tough academic subjects, The Learning Choice Academy’s (TLC) unique Hybrid Homeschool Program combines the flexibility of homeschooling with the structure and support of traditional education. Our tuition-free charter school serves TK-12 grade students across three convenient campuses in Chula Vista, La Mesa, and San Diego (currently TK Hybrid Homeschool Program is only available at La Mesa and Chula Vista).

Tuition-Free TK-12 Hybrid Homeschool Program 

Our Hybrid Homeschool Program provides students with three days of on-campus instruction from certified teachers and two days of at-home learning. On-campus instruction days look a lot like traditional school, but in a smaller, more connected learning environment. During these days, students benefit from: 

  • Instruction by highly qualified teachers
  • Core classes that incorporate authentic project learning
  • Small classes
  • Developmentally relevant TK program 
  • Personalized learning through intentional planning with an Educational Partner
  • A caring and inclusive TK-12 community
  • Character education
  • Art education for TK-5 students
  • 7th-12th grade students rotate through core classes and a wide variety of electives from STEAM to foreign languages
  • Free breakfast and lunch

The two days of at-home learning will look different from week-to-week and family-to-family. Some of those days may be used for field trips and meet-ups; others will continue instruction started in the classroom via tools like Google Classroom. Parents of students enrolled in this program are actively involved during these at-home learning days, from supporting students with assignments to facilitating physical education classes at a local park. OIder students may choose to use these at-home learning days to work on assignments, volunteer in their community or pursue their personal interests and passions.

At the high school level, our college and career preparatory curriculum supports students to be ready for post-secondary opportunities. Students can take Advanced Placement classes and earn free college credits through our dual enrollment program. We also provide all students with support from academic advisors who help with everything from resume-building to scholarship support and college admissions applications. 

Students also have the opportunity to explore Career & Technical Education programs like Music Performance & Production and Applied Sustainable Construction (where students design, build, and sell a tiny house!). 

All students, from TK-12, receive standards-aligned curriculum that is both rigorous and supportive, ensuring they meet educational benchmarks while pursuing individualized learning paths. Our balanced approach allows families to maintain autonomy over their child's education while benefiting from professional guidance and peer interaction. 

Educational Partners = Personalized Support For Every Learner

Each family in our program is assigned a dedicated Educational Partner who collaborates with parents and students to develop a personalized learning plan. These partners serve as essential guides, helping families navigate curriculum choices, set academic goals, and ensure students remain on track for grade-level achievement and beyond. 

This triad (parents, teacher and student) is the backbone of our program, becoming a cherished relationship that supports a child all the way from TK through to graduation. 

Homeschool With a Built-In Community 

TLC believes that school should nurture the whole child: heart, body and mind. We prioritize social-emotional learning and implement restorative justice practices to create emotionally safe spaces for all students. Our counselor-supported clubs and character education initiatives develop well-rounded individuals.

The Learning Choice Academy fosters a close-knit community through family field trips, special event nights, assemblies, and student showcases featuring exhibits and performances. We love bringing everyone together for events and fun!
