Meet Ms. Wilson: 2nd Grade Teacher at La Mesa

From the halls of San Diego State University to one of the founding teachers of The Learning Choice Academy's Hybrid Homeschool Program, Ms. Angie Wilson brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to personalized education. Her passion for watching children discover the magic of reading has made her classroom a place where learning comes alive. Get to know Ms. Wilson, our 2nd-grade teacher at La Mesa.

How did your professional and personal path lead you to TLC? 

I worked at SDSU for many years before going back to get my teaching credential. I taught at La Mesa Spring Valley school district for 9 years before coming to TLC to help start our elementary Hybrid Homeschool Program, which was called AIM at the time. I have been at the TLC La Mesa campus for the last 14 years. I have taught Kindergarten, First and Second Grades.

What do you love about TLC? What sets it apart from other schools?

I love that I get to know my families so well and for many years. I also enjoy working with my elementary team.

What’s the best part about your role? The biggest challenge? 

I think watching children learn to read and get so excited about reading is the best part of my job. The biggest challenge is saying goodbye to them each year as they move on to the next grade.

What other activities and clubs do you contribute to? 

I am part of the TLC Social-Emotional Learning committee and will also be part of the Garden Committee for next year. I also mentor other teachers and help with staff development in Social-Emotional Learning.

Fun Facts about Ms. Wilson

  • I am a children's book author of two children's books. 
  • I recently took up bird watching as a hobby.  
  • I love axolotls which I learned about from my students a few years ago.  
  • I enjoy hanging out with my two daughters, Lauren and Erin, and my two dogs and grand dog.  
  • I am a San Diego native and my parents are as well. I grew up in Alpine as a child.  
  • Diet Coke and Starbucks Iced Coffee are my favorite drinks.
  • When I was 5, I wanted to be a teacher!
