Take A Peek Inside Hybrid Homeschool TK

Two young students at The Learning Choice Academy examine a stack of three pinecones

Starting school is a milestone moment for families, and at The Learning Choice Academy (TLC), we've designed our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program to make this start both joyful and meaningful. Our tuition-free Hybrid Homeschool TK program offers students and families the perfect blend of structure and flexibility, teaching your youngest learners the “ropes” of school, while honoring the way children learn best: through play!

A Unique Hybrid Homeschool Approach

Our TK program embraces a Hybrid Homeschool model that gives families the best of both worlds. TK students attend school three days per week from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM at either our Chula Vista or La Mesa campuses. The other two days of the week are spent at home (or out in the community) engaged in teacher-guided activities. Families love that this schedule allows children to develop school readiness skills while maintaining their valuable family time and flexibility.

TK at TLC is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program. All TK students must still complete a full year of kindergarten. For the 2025-26 school year, students are eligible for TK if they turn 4 before September 1, 2025.

Learning Through Exploration

At the heart of our TK curriculum is the belief that children learn best by doing. Exploration, hands-on engagements and play are essential components of our TK program. Our early childhood teachers have developed the program to meet the needs of all students. The TK classroom is a space that invites wonder, curiosity and friendships to grow, with caring teachers guiding our youngest learners. And our student to teacher ratio is small (10:1) ensuring all students can build a caring relationship with their teacher.

Supporting Families Every Step

I love how TLC feels like a community. The staff, parents and students really care about one another. - Miss AmandaTK Teacher at La Mesa

On at-home learning days, families receive clear guidance for reinforcing classroom concepts through simple but engaging activities like letter scavenger hunts, counting games, and shared reading. These activities are meant to strengthen the home-school connection while building foundational skills.

TK students and their families are invited to participate in all school-wide events and field trips, which occur during these days off campus. At TLC, we believe that early education should spark curiosity, build confidence, and create a lifelong love of learning—and our TK program delivers exactly that.

Choice in Your Child's Education

If Hybrid Homeschool is not what your family is seeking for TK, families can also choose our 100% Homeschool Program. This option, available at all 3 of our campuses, provides complete flexibility while still offering access to our curriculum resources, educational support, and vibrant school community. Homeschool families receive guidance from dedicated Educational Partners and can participate in all enrichment activities, field trips, and special events, ensuring their child remains connected to the TLC community while learning at their own pace.
