The Living Coast Discovery Center – Virtual Field Trip (3rd-6th)
Join other TLC students for a virtual field trip presented by The Living Coast Discovery Center on Monday, February 8, 2021, at 10:00 AM. Virtual field trips are available during the closure of the center to allow students to experience the wildlife and science programs normally offered at the Living Coast. These programs are Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards-based. There are two components to this field trip; a live animal encounter and a pre-recorded squid dissection science lesson.
Sea Turtle Live Animal Encounter
The Live Animal Encounter featuring the Sea Turtle will be conducted via Zoom by a trained educator and animal handler and will include time for student questions and answers, and resources packet for pre-, post-. and during the encounter.
Also included in the field trip will be a 60-minute pre-recorded program on squid dissection presented by a trained Living Coast Discovery Center educator with activities for students to follow along. Students will learn about the internal and external parts that help a squid survive its ocean habitat. From three hearts to a reduced shell, the squid is a fascinating mollusk to dissect.
A confirmation will be shared with all registered students on Friday, February 5, and will include the links for both the Sea Turtle animal encounter and the Squid Dissection lesson.
