Virtual Field Trip: Layer The Walls
(Recommended for grades 3-8)
What if you discovered an old tenement apartment covered with forty layers of wallpaper? What if these layers could be peeled back to reveal the stories of past tenants?
In Poway OnStage’s Virtual Field Trip, Layer the Walls explores the imagined stories of tenants whose actions influenced the world we know today. A tenement scheduled to be torn down is where the story unfolds. We soon discover the interior walls reveal a rich history plastered with over 40 layers. These layers are examined through the use of masks, toy-theater techniques, and puppetry in hopes to expose and break damaging cycles of prejudice, exclusion, and injustice.
The field trip includes a tour of the Poway Center for Performing Arts, Pre-Recorded Performance with additional activities, and VAPA Workshop Videos. The full field trip will take about two hours to complete. The detailed breakdown below includes approximate times of each component of the Virtual Field Trip, in the order that they are presented. The components may be viewed all together or at your own pace.
