College & Career Readiness
At TLC, the student, parent, and Educational Partner work together to create an academic course of study that will enable the student to achieve their postsecondary goals.
College Readiness
TLC provides all students with a rigorous, standards-aligned, college preparatory educational program. In addition, we provide a number of supports to ensure that all our students are college/career ready, including first-generation college students.
Counseling
- TLC has a counselor at each school site. All high-school students have access to this counselor for college planning, PSAT/SAT support, accessing financial aid resources, and much more.
Dual Enrollment
-
TLC has partnerships with Grossmont College and Southwestern College that provide students with the opportunity to take a selection of college courses and earn college credits at no cost.
In addition, TLC facilitates college tours and offers a UC "a-g" approved course list and AP classes for our high school students at all sites.
The college-style schedule readied me for classes two or three times a week... the ability to take community college courses during high school [meant] that I could enter college with a sizable amount of units.
Career Technical Education
Career Technical Education (CTE) courses prepare students for trades in specific industry sectors. TLC currently provides three high quality CTE career pathways for high school students to choose from. Each are two-year pathways.
Energy, Environment & Utilities
- Students build a tiny home while learning about sustainable energy, engineering, and green tech. Includes courses in Energy, Environment and Design and Applied Sustainable Construction.
Multimedia Production
-
Students develop skills in music production, technology, sound and video editing, and audio engineering.
Music Performance
-
Students work on the elements of music and performance (evaluation, literacy, and aural skills).
“I learned so much about the construction industry during this whole year; for example, I learned about woodworks, how to use new power tools, insulation, drywall, wiring, and solar. I also learned more about leadership and what it takes to be a part of a successful team.
