Mission San Juan Capistrano

Students will learn about California’s history in a dynamic way.  Explore 10 acres of museum rooms, exhibits, gardens, fountains and more; providing you with the details of California’s early history.

Guided Staff Tour-A seven stop tour led by staff features the highlights of the Mission including Serra Chapel, exhibits, gardens and the Ruins of the Great Stone Church. After the tour join the fun! Students will be encouraged to use their five senses in exploring the past. Mission Matters, a curriculum based program, offers a fun-filled presentation and hands-on activities including adobe brick making that examine the daily lives of Mission Native Americans. Fee: $16 students and $12 adult.

Self-guided with Audio Tour-Explore the mission at your own pace. $10 per person. Children 3 and under are free at the mission.

The Mission Passport is an activity book produced by Alphabet House Publications which includes a walking map, historical facts and games that teach about Mission history.  This ideal learning tool features a guide that students can work from during their visit.

Train option: Take the Pacific Surf Liner Amtrak train from Old Town San Diego to San Juan Capistrano for only $13 roundtrip per person ($33 value). Please note school aged and limited adult chaperones only may ride the train. Pending approval from Amtrack including travel times. 8 am to 5:30pm.  Mission hours: 9am to 5pm.
